























Single 'Mount' Chair by Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd.
Carver chair from the ‘Mount’ range designed by Paul Matt for Brynmawr circa 1930s. In golden oak with lattice back, lightly chamfered legs and drop in panel seat.
Paul Matt was the son of a German cabinet maker who moved to Wales in the late 1920s to found the Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd in an attempt to relieve the high levels of work in the area.
The company ceased trading ceased in 1940 and existing pieces from the Brynmawr workshop are reasonably scarce.
Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and by Art Deco, he designed simple but well made furniture that could be constructed with ease by relatively unskilled workers.
Chair is in structurally good condition, some surface wear and tear commensurate with age and use.
