Set of Four Paul Matt for Brynmawr 'Mount' Dining Chairs

£600.00
Sold

Four ‘Mount’ oak dining chairs designed by Paul Matt for Brynmawr.

The chair frames have a lattice back with slightly chamfered legs and blue striped upholstery.

Paul Matt was a Quaker and the son of a German cabinet maker who had served his apprenticeship under his father in London. Arriving in Wales he saw an opportunity to relieve the high levels of unemployment in the area by founding the Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd in 1931, offering training and work in the area.

Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and by Art Deco, he designed simple but well made furniture that could be constructed with ease by relatively unskilled workers.

Chairs are in structurally good and strong condition. Seat pads showing some wear and tear - could easily be updated with fresh fabric.

Each 87cm H
